There is a slew of toys and games for sale, revolving around the loveable Diego, often with the Go Diego Go theme song somehow tied into them, to give them a little more authenticity.  You can find Go Diego Go blocks, Go Diego Go bikes and tricycles, Go Diego Go dolls, Go Diego Go helicopters and even Go Diego Go costumes!

Some of my favourite Go Diego Go games are those made by Fisher Price such as their Go Diego Go Dinosaur Rescue Mountain, and the Talking Rescue Center. Of course if your child is already into Bakugan Toys then they may not be as thrilled to play with these, but for the younger set they are fantastic!

The Go Diego Go 123 Game has received mixed reviews. There are ten different game boards, and each player (up to four can play at a time) can choose the animal game board according to what the animal does, i.e. flies, crawls, etc.  The game itself is almost like a type of ‘Bingo’ where you pull an animal out of a bag and place it on your game board if it matches.  Most three to four year olds enjoy playing the game and matching the animals but some older four year olds and on may soon tire of the game.  It is really a perfect Go Diego Go game for the young child that is just starting out playing board games.

If you’re looking for Go Diego Go costumes and costume items there are quite a few to choose from. A complete Go Diego Go costume costs anywhere from $30 to $50 depending on where you buy it and what size it is.  The Diego Animal Rescuer backpack costs around $12 and can be bought on its own.  If you are looking for more specialized Go Diego Go dress up items you could check out the Fisher Price Go Diego Go Animal Rescue gear, although be warned that the vest is made from very thin, lightweight material and is not terribly durable. Most children enjoy playing with the accessories though, which include a water canteen, binoculars, and a play cell phone.

There are also some great Leapfrog Tag readers featuring Go Diego Go adventures such as Go Diego Go: Underwater Mystery, or if you’re looking for an educational computer game they also produce those at a very reasonable price. As with most toys or educational games, it helps to know your child and what they like before buying these.

Other fun items you might be interested in if you have very young children who still like to play with bath toys are the Go Diego Go bath squirt toys which can even double as a swimming pool toy.  They would be guaranteed to keep your child occupied and having fun in the bath for quite some time.

Another play item that is guaranteed to keep most kids occupied for a long time, happily playing, is the Play-Doh Diego playset. Children have hours of fun with play doh, and this themed set that includes animal molds, a vehicle, and a roller that makes mysterious animal tracks!

The fully animated, color, full screen DVD is aimed at the 2 to 4 year old age bracket, and while many think that Dora is for girls and Diego is for boys, there are plenty who disagree with that. While Dora focuses a lot on Spanish language learning, Diego majors more on teaching about animals and animal lifestyles, while also teaching some Spanish.

There are three episodes on ” Diego’s Arctic Rescue”, with the longer episode focusing more on Arctic Polar Bears. The two other episodes revolve around Puffins and the Okapi, both relatively uncommon and not widely familiar animals for pre-schoolers. Of course the episodes begin with the Go Diego Go theme song, and there are other very catchy little tunes sprinkled throughout each episode as well.

The Go Diego Go  series, unlike Dora the Explorer focuses on one animal per episode,  teaching up to around eight ‘animal facts’ each episode, with quite a few facts repeated throughout the show.  At the end of the show, there’s a quiz which will show you how many of those repeated facts have actually been picked up by the pre-schoolers.

Aside from the educational aspect of the Go Diego Go videos, which is great, they are also a lot of fun to sit down and watch, and pre-schoolers especially seem to be highly captivated by the series. There’s really nothing negative to say about this DVD, as it seems to have captured the hearts of the children and the parents and grandparents with its cute Go Diego Go theme song and actions and interactive conversations.

Currently Go Diego Go’s “Diego’s Arctic Rescue” DVD is sold online, retailing for anywhere between $12 and $16, depending on where you buy it. You can also pick up second hand DVDs at a reasonable price as well.

Diego hits DVD with this 4-episode, animal rescue adventure.  The feature episode, “Rainforest Race (Armadillo’s Rainforest Race)” is followed by three additional rescue stories: “The Great Roadrunner Race”, “The Tapir’s Trip Home”, “Baby Jaguar To The Rescue”

Go Diego Go! – The Great Dinosaur Rescue (DVD, 2005)

One of the first Go Diego Go DVDs, released in 2005, featured the double-length episode, “The Great Dinosaur Rescue” and also included two other episodes: “Diego Saves the Humpback Whale” and “Rescue the Red-Eyed Tree Frogs”.   In “The Great Dinosaur Rescue” Diego travels back in time so he can help lost baby dinosaur find her family.

Go Diego Go! – Wolf Pup Rescue (DVD, 2006)

The next DVD volume, released in 2006, features four separate episodes: “Diego’s Wolf Pup Rescue”, “A Booboo on the Pygmy Marmoset”, “Diego Saves Mommy and Baby Sloth” and “Three Little Condors.”

Go Diego Go! – Diego Saves Christmas! (DVD, 2006)

Released to coincide with the end of year winter holiday season, this particular DVD features two wintery episodes: “Diego Saves Christmas” and “Pepito’s Penguin School.” The two other bonus episodes included are: “A Blue Morpho Butterfly is Born” and “Save the Sea Turtles.”

Go Diego Go! – Underwater Mystery (DVD, 2007)

The two featured episodes on the “Underwater Mystery” DVD are all about water adventures.  First there is “An Underwater Mystery (Lucy the Whale Shark),” and then Diego goes on to save a baby dolphin in “”Diego Saves Baby River Dolphin.”  Diego makes his way to Jaguar Mountain, in time for the next DVD in “Journey to Jaguar Mountain,” and finally meets up with “Chito and Rita the Spectacled Bears.”

Go Diego Go! – Underwater Mystery (DVD, 2007)

Another DVD released in 2007, this particular series starts off with two episodes with rain-forest adventures: “The Great Jaguar Rescue” and “Little Kinkajou is in Beehive Trouble.” Other episodes included on this DVD are “The Mommy Macaw” and “Chinta the Baby Chinchilla”.

Go Diego Go! – The Iguana Sing Along (DVD, 2007)

In this DVD, also released in 2007, we first of all find out all about iguanas in “Iggy the Iguana”.  Other episodes include one about a librarian llama.  Then Diego and his sister, Alicia, set to work saving some lost otters. Last of all there’s an episode all about Anacondas.

Go Diego Go! – Safari Rescue (DVD, 2007)

The first of a set of “Rescue DVDs” Diego, sister Alicia and Diego’s ever present companion Baby Jaguar find themselves in Africa, in the Serengeti looking for missing elephants. Along the way, they learn all about African animals and wildelife.  Two other episodes on this DVD are “Panchita the Prairie Dog” and “Jorge the Little Hawk Learns to Migrate.”

Go Diego Go! – Diego’s Magical Missions (DVD 2008)

Diego’s out rescuing animals again, only this time for the first episode, we find a shapeshifter magician who steals a flying flute by turning it into an animal!  Next up, an iguana helps to re-seed Diego’s grandfather’s strawberry farm.  The last two episodes feature undersea adventures with whales and octopuses.

Go Diego Go! – Moonlight Rescue (DVD 2008)

Another in the “rescue” series, in this episode Diego, along with the help of his friends, watch as sea turtles hatch and then make their treacherous journey down the beach and into the ocean.  Diego saves the day when the baby turtles need rescuing.  Other episodes included on this DVD are “Rainforest Rhapsody”  and “Rhea is an Animal Rescuer”.

Go Diego Go! – Moonlight Rescue (DVD 2008)

Four episodes on this DVD, make it a fun “must watch” for any Diego lovers!  In the first episode, Diego sets out to rescue a Gorilla. Other episodes include: “Save the Giant Tortoises!”, “Egyptian Camel Adventure” and “Super Flying Squirrel to the Rescue!”,  Incidentally, there’s also a Yo Gabba Gabba music video bonus included on the DVD.

Go Diego Go! Diego’s Halloween (2008)

Released in time for Halloween in 2008, there is one Halloween episode called, “Freddie the Fruit Bat Saves Halloween!” Freddie the fruit bat helps the llamas make it in time to Diego’s Halloween party.  The three other episodes are: “Alicia Saves the Crocodile!”, “Diego and Dora Help Baby Monarch Get to the Festival”,  and “Manatee’s Mermaid Rescue!”

Go Diego Go! – The Great Dinosaur Rescue (2008)

In this series, Diego and his friends go back in time, in order to save a baby dinosaur.  As with some of the other “Rescue” DVDs, it is a two part episode.  Then other episodes featured on this particular DVD are “Diego Saves Baby Humpback Whale” and “Rescue The Red-Eyed Tree Frogs.”

Go Diego Go!: It’s a Bug’s World (2008)

In this episode, Diego and friend Kicho shrink all the way down to a bug size, and explore the world of beetles. Naturally, there is a beetle that needs rescuing, and Diego and Kicho rise to the occasion.

Go Diego Go!: Rainforest Fiesta (2009)

The most recently released Go Diego Go DVD, “Rainforest Fiesta” was released in 2009.  As with most of the other DVD releases, this also has four episodes on the DVD, and also has a video game included as well!  The episodes include: “Diego and Porcupine Save the Pinata!” “A New Flamingo Mami,” “Macky the Macaroni Penguin,” and Linda the Llama shows up again in, “Linda the Llama Saves Carnaval.”

Go Diego Go! Diego’s Arctic Rescue (2009)

In this 95 minute adventure and learning filled DVD, released in September 2009,  there are three episodes presented. In one longer episode Diego, along with sister Alicia and cousin Dora, rescue a Polar bear in trouble.  Other episodes are also included in this new release.

With this particular game your child will travel through time, along with Diego and best friend Baby Jaguar to help Maia the Maiasaura find her way home.  There are a total of 5 levels to search through on the way to Egg Island. Of course during the course of the rescue there is tons of action, including rock climbing, monkey bars and jumping on a pogo stick to name just a few. It is also full of puzzles and lots of other fun activities.  It boasts having over twelve remote actions, including climbing, flapping, pulling and stomping.

Made specifically with the two, three and four year olds in mind, the game’s simple yet intuitive menu is easy enough for most four year olds to navigate by themselves, and while the younger children may need help with the menus and moving onto different sections generally it is simple enough for them to make the plays themselves with very little supervision.

It is not necessarily considered an educational game, but then again what Wii game is, but it does live up to its promise of lots of fun and adventure.  There’s minimal teaching about animals, something that is highly featured in the TV show and videos, and the main way it could be considered education is that it of course teaches the child to follow directions, and using the Wii controller is also a good way to teach hand to eye control for the youngsters.

One point to note is that while two children can play the game in some instances, it is primarily a one-player game, and the main person playing even when two can definitely has more fun with it. So, if you have two young ones who you anticipate would like playing Go Diego Go Safari Rescue, then make sure you’re prepared to teach them to take turns!

It seems to be geared more specifically at three year olds, when it comes to the newness and complexity. It’s difficult enough for the three year old for it to be challenging, yet not so difficult that they can’t get through the game.  While four year olds and even older children enjoy Go Diego Go Safari Rescue, they can begin to lose interest faster once they’ve finished the game for the first time. Three year olds seem to thrive on repetition, though, and will often play the game through many times and still retain their interest and delight in playing it.
